Mamba Motivation

March 17, 2020
By Team Mamba

This week you’ve moved to your home—and now we’re joining you. That’s because there’s nothing more important to us than our Mamba community. We all we got, for real.

We’re making it our business, then, to continue our mission—changing the way people approach performance—in these unprecedented times. We’re making it our mission to form a positive Mamba community online.

To that end, we’re posting hoop workouts on our IG story, stay-in-shape-from-home workouts on our main IG account, nutritional tips for sedentary times on Mamba Medicine’s IG, and a ton more content here.

With that in mind, we also wanted to provide you with some motivational quotes from our late, great partner Kobe Bryant. So…below are some inspiring and thoughtful quotes taken from lessons given here at MSA, his book Mamba Mentality, and his young adult fictions.

We can and will get through this—together.

  • “Starting early helped me balance basketball and life. When my kids woke up in the morning I was three, and they wouldn’t even know I had just finished at the gym. At night, I’d be able to put them to bed, then go workout again during my own time, not theirs. I wasn’t willing to sacrifice my game, but I also wasn’t willing to sacrifice my family time. So I decided to sacrifice sleep and that was that.” – Kobe Bryant

  • “As a kid it bothered me when something felt like a weakness. So I worked really hard on my left hand at that age. I would brush my teeth with my left, write with my life. I just hated the feeling of being uncomfortable.” – Kobe Bryant

  • “The only reason I was able to pick up details on the court was because I trained my mind to do that off the court in my daily life. By reading, by paying attention in class and practice, by working, I strengthened my focus and strengthened my ability to always be present.” – Kobe Bryant

  • “If I wanted to implement something new into my game, I’d see it and try it immediately. I wasn’t scared of missing, looking bad or being embarrassed because I always kept the long game in mind. I always focused on the fact that I had to try something to get it and once I got it, I’d have another tool in my arsenal. If the price was a lot of work and a few missed shots, I was ok with that.” – Kobe Bryant

  • “A lot of people say they want to by great, but they’re not actually willing to make the sacrifices necessary to achieve greatness. That’s fine. Greatness is not for everybody.” –Kobe Bryant

  • “I always liked the peace and calm of the arena before everyone got there. It’s just me and the basket, the court, my imagination, and my dreams.” – Kobe Bryant

  • “No matter what people are going to like you or not like you. So be authentic, and let them like you or not like you for who you actually are.” – Kobe Bryant

  • “If you want to be a great player, you have to be in great shape. Everyone talks about the fancy workouts, but I worked relentlessly to make sure my legs and lungs were always at peak performance.” –Kobe Bryant

  • “People make a huge deal out of clutch shots. Thing is, it’s just one shot. If you make a thousand shots a day, it’s just one out of a thousand. Once you’re hitting that many what’s one more?” – Kobe Bryant

  • “Good coaches tell you where the fish are. Great coaches teach you how to find them.” – Kobe Bryant

  • “Mamba Mentality isn’t about seeking a result. It’s about the journey and the approach. It’s a way of life.” – Kobe Bryant

  • “Greatness isn’t easy to achieve. It requires a lot of time, a lot of sacrifices. It requires a lot of tough choices. Much respect to those who are chasing that elusive feeling.” – Kobe Bryant
